The Powersports Technology program prepares students to maintain, troubleshoot, and overhaul the major systems and components of powersports, agricultural, outdoor power, and marine equipment. Instruction combines classroom theory with hands-on laboratory training to develop technical skills in inspection, maintenance, and repair of engines, drivetrains, electrical systems, hydraulics, suspension, steering, and marine drives. Students gain practical, real-world experience through lab projects and a required summer internship.
The Powersports Technology program is accredited by the Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC) in Two-Stroke and Four-Stroke Engines, Electrical, Compact Diesel Engines, and Driveline/Hydraulics, and by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).
The Powersports Technology program provides training in engine diagnostics, electrical and electronic systems, braking systems, controls, transmissions, and hydraulic components across a variety of small engine and recreational equipment platforms. Students develop troubleshooting, service, and customer communication skills that prepare them to work effectively in dealership and service environments. Industry-recognized EETC certifications are integrated into the curriculum, allowing students to demonstrate technical competency in multiple specialty areas.
Graduates are prepared for careers as technicians, adjusters, and service writers with original equipment manufacturer dealers, independent service shops, agricultural and turf operations, golf course maintenance facilities, equipment rental companies, and government agencies. A required summer internship provides hands-on experience and professional connections prior to graduation.
Students pursuing the Associate of Applied Science degree may select from two options. The General Option provides comprehensive instruction across all powersports, agricultural, outdoor power, and marine systems. The Agriculture & Turf Equipment Option allows students to focus on specialized coursework related to agribusiness, turf management, irrigation, equipment operation, and commercial site maintenance.
Students interested in shorter-term training may pursue a Basic One-Year Certificate that prepares them for entry-level employment, with the option to continue into an Advanced One-Year Certificate to expand technical skills. The program also supports sustainability initiatives by incorporating electric-powered equipment, alternative fuels, and environmentally responsible shop practices.
It is a graduation requirement of the Powersports Technology Associate of Applied Science degree for students to earn a grade of “C” or better in all “Core Curriculum” and “Program Requirements” courses.
