Credit Hour/Class Load

The unit of credit is the semester hour. One credit hour or unit represents approximately three hours of work per week by a student for one semester, or an approximation of 15 instructional weeks exclusive of registration and final examination time. For the student, this typically means one hour of lecture with two hours of preparation or two to three hours of lab with one or fewer hours of preparation.

Due to the nature of technical education, program requirements for A.A.S. degree programs generally exceed a total of 60 credit hours. The additional load is comprised of applied lab time.

A student desiring to take more than 18 credit hours or less than 12 credit hours per semester must meet with his/her advisor for approval. A student desiring to take less than a full class load of 12 credit hours per semester also needs to consult the Office of Financial Aid about financial aid eligibility.
