Institutional Workdays and Campus Events

Scope

This policy applies to full-time employees.

Background

State Technical College of Missouri designates certain dates throughout the academic year as mandatory institutional workdays and campus events which may fall within normal operating hours, or may fall outside normal operating hours including weekends. Employee participation is required to support institutional priorities, student engagement, and campus-wide initiatives.

Purpose

This policy provides clarification, additional information, and expectations for employee involvement during these workdays and campus events.

Mandatory Institutional Workdays

Employees are required to attend all mandatory institutional workdays including but not limited to:

  • Academic Year Launch– Three-day time period prior to the start of fall semester classes, typically a Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday that includes Academic Year Kickoff and Academic Affairs Working Session. All full-time employees are required to be present
  • Fall Professional Development Day– Typically held on the Tuesday following Labor Day that includes mandatory annual training and developmental opportunities. All full-time employees are required to be present
  • Spring Semester Launch– Three-day time period prior to the start of spring semester classes, typically a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Employee attendance requirements are directed by the applicable Vice President.

Mandatory Campus Events

Employees are required to attend all mandatory campus events including but not limited to:

  • Show-Me State Tech (Fall) – Typically held in October. Exact date is annotated on the annual institutional calendar. All full-time employees are required to attend this event.
  • Career Expo – Typically held in February. Exact date is annotated on the annual institutional calendar. Attendance requirements are directed by duty assignment.
  • Show-Me State Tech (Spring) – Typically held in March. Exact date is annotated on the annual institutional calendar. All full-time employees are required to attend this event.
  • SkillsUSA State Contest – Typically held in April. Exact date is annotated on the annual institutional calendar. All full-time employees are required to attend this event.
  • State Tech Cup – Typically held in May. Exact date is annotated on the annual institutional calendar. Attendance requirements are directed by duty assignment.
  • Commencement – Typically held in May. Exact date is annotated on the annual institutional calendar. All full-time employees are required to attend this event.

Additional events or dates may be designated as mandatory by the institution and will be communicated in advance.

Expectations

  • Employees are expected to be present and actively participate in all designated mandatory institutional workdays and campus events as required.
  • Supervisors are responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing, participation, and coverage within their respective areas as required.
  • Employees are responsible for reviewing and remaining informed of mandatory dates as published on the official institutional calendar. Employees are expected to review the calendar regularly and plan accordingly.

Exceptions to Expectations

  • Absences from mandatory workdays or campus events may only be approved by the employee’s Vice President.
  • If an absence/exception is approved by the employee’s Vice President, the employee must notify the event organizer to avoid impact to assigned responsibilities. The employee’s immediate supervisor is responsible for ensuring that critical responsibilities are reassigned or adequately covered.

Non-Compliance

Failure to attend designated mandatory institutional workdays or campus events without Vice Presidential approval may result in corrective action in accordance with the Progressive Discipline procedure.
