Rehire Into the Same Position

Purpose

To ensure equitable compensation practices and prevent circumvention of established salary structures by prohibiting employees from re-entering the same position for the primary purpose of obtaining increased compensation.

Policy Statement

State Technical College of Missouri does not permit employees to be rehired into the same full-time position they currently hold or previously held for the purpose of obtaining a salary increase or additional compensation outside of established processes.

Rehire into the same role may not be used as a mechanism to adjust compensation.

Compensation Adjustments

Salary adjustments for current employees must occur through one of the following approved processes:

  • Annual compensation adjustments approved through the College’s annual budget process
  • Equity adjustments approved through Executive Leadership
  • Position reclassification based on substantial changes in duties
  • Promotion to a different position with expanded responsibilities

Rehire Eligibility

Employees may not resign, transfer, or otherwise separate from employment and subsequently be rehired into the same position title and job classification for the purpose of receiving a salary increase.

Exceptions

Exceptions to this policy may be granted only when all of the following conditions are met:

  • The employee must fully resign effective at the end of their current contract. Resignation will invalidate any contract already issued for the following year.
  • The position has been substantially reclassified or significantly changed in scope; or
  • A documented operational necessity exists that requires rehiring into the same role; and
  • Final approval is granted by the President.
