Residency Classification

Residency classification provides an opportunity for students initially designated as non-residents to obtain resident status for the purpose of tuition and fee assessment. Residency status is determined at the time of admission based on the information submitted in the application for admission. Students classified as non-residents who subsequently establish residency in Missouri may apply for classification.

Eligibility for Residency Classification

A student may be classified as a resident if any of the following conditions are met by the student, their spouse, or their parent/guardian:

  • You, your spouse, or your parent/guardian have lived in Missouri for 12 consecutive months.
  • You, your spouse, or your parent/guardian move to Missouri for full-time employment, professional practice, retirement, or to run a business.
  • Your parents/guardians are divorced, and one parent/guardian lives and works in Missouri.
  • You marry a Missouri resident and establish a common household.
  • You moved to Missouri to work full-time and have decided to enroll at State Technical College of Missouri.

 Special Considerations

Applicants may also qualify under the following circumstances:

  • You, your spouse, or your parent/guardian are active-duty military stationed in Missouri.
  • You graduated from a Missouri high school and are enrolling in college in the term immediately following your graduation.

Students who do not meet any of the above criteria must establish residency in Missouri for at least 12 consecutive months, as well as the intent to remain in the state of Missouri, prior to seeking classification.
