Frequently Asked Questions

How can students afford to attend State Tech?

College is a big investment, but at State Tech that investment goes further. The A+ Scholarship covers standard tuition and fees, so students only pay for housing, food, books, and personal expenses.

Students can also combine A+ with FAFSA-based aid and scholarships for even more savings. In fact, State Tech students receive the third-largest amount of grant or scholarship aid in the country, averaging $9,223 per student.

Bottom line: High-quality education, low cost, and a high return on investment — that’s the State Tech value.

Why might a student choose State Tech over going straight to work or starting an apprenticeship?

Right now, it might seem appealing for students to go straight into the workforce or start an apprenticeship, especially with today’s labor shortage. While both paths can lead to valuable experience, earning a degree from State Tech offers long-term advantages. Our graduates gain specialized skills and industry-recognized credentials that open doors to higher-paying jobs, leadership roles, and long-term career growth—opportunities that may not be available without a degree.

Are State Tech careers secure in the age of AI and automation?

Another benefit of a State Tech education is that our programs lead to careers that aren’t going to be replaced by AI or automation. You can’t outsource a powerline technician, an HVAC specialist, or a healthcare technologist. Employers will always need skilled, hands-on professionals and that’s exactly what State Tech produces.

What kind of student life experience can my students expect at State Tech?

Your students can enjoy the full college experience in just two years. From intramural sports and student activities to a vibrant, close-knit campus community, State Tech offers plenty of ways to stay active, get involved, and build lasting connections—all while earning a degree that leads directly to a great career.

What facilities and amenities are available for students on campus?

The Activity Center is a favorite spot for students to relax and recharge. It features three full courts, a walking track, a fitness center, a gaming center, and Osage Burger Co. — a popular on-campus dining option. All students have access through a membership, with convenient hours to fit around their class schedules.

Does State Tech offer outdoor recreation or spaces to unwind?

Yes! Lake State Tech is our nearly eight-acre lake right on campus. It’s the perfect place for students to take a break from class, connect with friends, or enjoy the outdoors. The lake features a dock, boat ramp, pickleball court, fish habitat, and even a white sand beach. It’s a big part of what makes campus life at State Tech both fun and balanced.

What housing options are available for State Tech students?

On-Campus Housing:

State Tech offers nine student cottages, each with eight rooms that can be configured for single, double, or triple occupancy. Resident Assistants (RAs) help ensure a safe and supportive environment by planning activities, fostering community, and enforcing housing policies.

Students living on campus are required to have a 14-meal-per-week plan, making it easy to enjoy convenient, balanced, and affordable dining without leaving campus. Living on campus allows students to stay close to classes and labs, get involved in student life, and build strong connections within the State Tech community.

Off-Campus Housing:

For students who prefer to live off campus, there are many affordable options nearby—with more than 2,000 beds available in the surrounding area.

Why should I entrust my students to State Tech?

Because we’re focused on results.

  • Highest graduation rate in the country
  • 99% job placement rate
  • Industry-driven curriculum designed with input from employers
  • Hands-on learning in state-of-the-art facilities
  • Residential campus experience unique for a two-year college
  • High-paying jobs, low student debt, and full A+ Program acceptance
  • Students graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree—and a career

At the #1 two-year college in the country, your students can earn a degree that delivers an incredible return on investment.

What kind of students thrive at State Tech?

The students who do best at State Tech are the ones who want to get to work — and get ahead. They’re hands-on learners who like solving problems, learning by doing, and seeing the real-world impact of their skills.

We admit students based on GPA and test scores, because data shows those factors are the strongest predictors of success. Our goal is to admit students who will not only start here but finish strong and walk across the graduation stage.

Admissions Criteria:

  • Automatic Admission (for non-competitive programs): 3.0 GPA and 18 or higher in Reading, English, and Math on the ACT.
  • Tiered Admissions:
    • Tier 1 – Auto Admit
    • Tier 2 – Auto Admit: Slightly higher GPA with lower test scores, or vice versa. Data shows these students can also succeed.
    • Tier 3 – Program Review: The academic program reviews the student’s application based on program-specific success factors.

College Readiness:

  • If students don’t meet every requirement, they are still encouraged to apply. Our admissions team reviews each application individually and can help determine their best next steps.
  • Developmental courses are available for students who need additional support.

For students who aren’t quite there yet:

If your student is a junior, encourage them to focus on raising their GPA during senior year and to retake the ACT or try the Accuplacer, which is untimed and can be taken for specific subject areas.

Why do employers love hiring State Tech graduates?

Employers know State Tech graduates are job-ready on day one. That’s why they actively recruit our students. When companies need skilled talent, State Tech is their first call. That’s why we are The Employers’ Choice.

How does a State Tech degree pay off compared to a four-year college?

Compared to a four-year school, State Tech students see a higher return on investment. While students at a university are still sitting in class for two more years, our graduates are already out in the workforce, earning a strong salary, gaining experience, and advancing their careers.
