The Drafting and Design Engineering Technology program at State Tech equips students with the technical and creative skills to transform ideas into precise, buildable designs. With a balanced mix of mechanical, architectural, civil, electrical, and structural drafting, the program provides a comprehensive foundation in modern design and engineering principles.
Students train with industry-standard software including AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, Civil 3D, SDS2, and Bluebeam, mastering both 2D and 3D modeling used by professionals across multiple disciplines. Faculty with real-world design experience guide students through projects that mirror industry conditions, building the problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and technical precision that employers demand.
Every student completes an internship, gaining valuable professional experience and often securing employment before graduation. With more than ten job openings for every graduate, demand for skilled drafting and design technicians remains exceptionally strong. Graduates go on to work as industrial and architectural designers, engineering technicians, cost estimators, and quality assurance specialists, supporting the engineers and architects who shape our world.
At State Tech, you won’t just draw designs, you’ll bring ideas to life.

Graduates of this program are qualified to take positions as industrial and architectural designers, drafting and engineering technicians, cost estimators, and quality assurance technicians. Drafting, design, and engineering technicians often assist engineers and architects with design and development work.
After a brief introduction to manual drafting techniques, drawings are produced using computer aided drafting (CAD). Using engineering data, specifications, and various equipment, drafting and engineering technicians assist in determining design changes and production costs. They may also be required to apply their knowledge to solve particular design problems such as those involving tolerance, stress, strain, bending, and compression. The department has state-of-the-art CAD labs with the latest versions of software used in industry. Students are scheduled in small classes to ensure individual attention and high quality instruction.
The Drafting and Design Engineering Technology (DDT) program of State Technical College of Missouri is thorough and comprehensive, with a balanced mix of instruction in mechanical, architectural, civil, electrical, and structural drafting.
We believe time-on-task has to be part of your education. That means time spent learning from experienced instructors in real-world environments and real-world situations. That’s why the State Tech campus is home to more than 50 labs, an automotive bay, aviation hangar, and 40+ acres of land dedicated to our heavy equipment operations program.
