Modern life runs on power and it takes skilled line workers to keep the lights on. At State Tech, the Electrical Distribution Systems program prepares students to install, maintain, and repair the electrical power systems that keep our homes, businesses, and communities connected.
Through hands-on training in both overhead and underground electrical systems, students learn essential skills in transformers and transformer theory, conductors, metering, fusing, substations, and voltage regulation. By graduation, students have a strong foundation in electrical distribution systems and the confidence to step directly into the workforce.
State Tech’s experienced faculty bring years of real-world utility experience to the classroom, and strong industry partnerships ensure students train on the latest equipment and standards. Every student has the opportunity to complete an internship, gaining valuable field experience and professional connections before graduation.
Because demand for skilled line workers remains high, this program is highly competitive and enrollment is limited. Graduates enter the workforce with in-demand skills and exceptional earning potential, often reaching $40 per hour as they advance with electric cooperatives, energy companies, and private contractors.
At State Tech, you’re not just climbing poles, you’re powering communities.
The final application deadline for the program is November 5th. This includes a completed application and all admissions requirements are submitted for review.

The Electrical Distribution Systems program at State Technical College of Missouri prepares individuals to climb wood pole structures, build and maintain electrical distribution systems, use safe work practices, administer first aid, and perform pole top rescue. Students also receive a strong foundation in math, communication, and critical thinking skills and are required to participate in an approved internship.
All students are prepared to earn Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour training, CPR, First Aid, and Flagger certifications. Safety and electrical code requirements are stressed in all classes. Enrollment in the Electrical Distribution Systems program is limited and students are selected for this program on a competitive basis.
Curriculum and classes simulate real-world working conditions; from climbing poles to running equipment, to understanding the fundamentals of electricity, EDS has lots of exciting and diverse classes across the two-year experience.
