The Practical Nursing Technology program at State Tech provides students with a strong foundation in both the science and art of nursing. This intensive 11-month program combines classroom instruction with clinical experience to prepare graduates for immediate entry into the healthcare field as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
Students study core subjects such as Human Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, IV Therapy, Maternity Nursing, and Medical-Surgical Nursing, building the knowledge and confidence to provide compassionate, skilled patient care. Once clinical instruction begins, students spend two days per week at clinical sites and three days per week in the classroom, gaining valuable real-world experience alongside experienced healthcare professionals.
By the end of the program, students are eligible to take the LPN licensure exam. Upon successful completion, they can step directly into a rewarding and high-demand career as Licensed Practical Nurses or move on to the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program, which prepares students for the RN licensure exam.
At State Tech, you won’t just learn the science of nursing: you’ll master the art of care.
The Practical Nursing Technology program has full approval by the Missouri State Board of Nursing, 3605 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, MO 65102; (573) 751-0293; www.pr.mo.gov. We believe in non-discrimination on the basis of race, gender identity, gender expression, sex, sexual orientation, religion, color, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran. The student shall meet the criteria to apply to take the examination for licensure as stated in the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, Section 335.066. Completion of the program does not guarantee eligibility to take the licensure examination.
The demand for nurses remains strong and is projected to grow in the coming years. Retirements, and expanding healthcare needs (especially as the population ages) ensure nursing remains a reliable and in-demand career path.
With small classroom settings and hands-on training in our lab, you’ll be well prepared to step right into a clinical setting. The program includes work on-site at hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities in the Jefferson City area to equip you with the technical and personal skills needed to help return patients to their normal lives.
Upon graduation and approval from the Missouri State Board of Nursing, you’ll be eligible for the NCLEX-PN examination, which is required to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. And after completing the program, you have the option to continue on to the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing.
Collaborate with patients, communities and other healthcare professionals using open communication, mutual respect and shared decision-making to plan and deliver holistic patient care.
Utilize evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning to make patient-centered care decisions within the scope of practice of the professional nurse.
The curriculum includes hands-on education at clinical sites such as hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. Graduates who pass their licensure exam are able to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or they have the option to further their education in the State Tech Associate Degree in Nursing program.
We believe time-on-task has to be part of your education. That means time spent learning from experienced instructors in real-world environments and real-world situations. That’s why the State Tech campus is home to more than 50 labs, an automotive bay, aviation hangar, and 40+ acres of land dedicated to our heavy equipment operations program.
Phelps Health is a proud supporter of State Tech and the Nursing program.
