State Tech Offering a New Commercial Construction Technology Program starting in the fall of 2026.

Linn– State Tech is known for amazing career outcomes for our graduates, so when we begin to offer a new program, we know these students will be in high demand when they graduate. That is why we are excited to announce our new Commercial Construction Technology program. This new program will start accepting students for the fall class of 2026.

“The construction industry nationwide is short 500,000 workers. The strong interest in this new program from the construction industry shows there will be significant opportunities for our graduates. We have a 10,000-square-foot building that will be dedicated to the program and is ready to support getting this program kicked off. This will be a great complement to our other construction-related programs, including HVAC, Electrical, Facilities Operations and Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Utility Construction, and Heavy Equipment Operations and Management,” said State Tech President, Dr. Shawn Strong.

The Commercial Construction Technology program will deliver a comprehensive, industry-driven curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in commercial building construction. Students will gain hands-on experience in construction safety, blueprint reading, and surveying before progressing into advanced topics such as roofing systems, commercial concrete, structural systems, building codes, construction materials, mechanical and electrical systems, and project management.

“In this new commercial construction program, we bridge the gap between blueprint and building; students won’t just learn about construction; they will learn by doing, mastering skills with hard hats on. Upon completion of the program, students will be job-site ready. They will be able to erect steel or pour concrete and have the foundation to move into management or supervisory roles,” said State Tech Academic Dean, Shawn Berhorst.

Graduates will be well-prepared for positions related to pre-construction services like estimating, procurement, and scheduling, or field positions related to any number of trades, leading to roles as field engineers or superintendents. Graduates will be equipped with the technical and professional competencies needed to support efficient, safe, and code-compliant commercial construction projects.
