Student Employment

State Technical College of Missouri provides employment opportunities to students in several operational areas. This policy identifies constraints or restrictions in the areas where students are employed.

  • At-Will Employees. At-Will employees of the college are full-time or part-time. Work schedules accommodate the student’s class schedule. Compensation and benefits are in accordance with State Tech policy.
  • Federal Work-Study. The Federal Work-Study Program is federally funded and provides part time employment to students while enrolled in school. Work-Study positions are available to students who meet required financial need criteria. The number of hours per week a work study employee may work is set by the Financial Aid office and may be adjusted throughout a semester based on available funding. Work-Study students will sign a work-study agreement prior to their employment. Students are required to provide their class schedule to their supervisor at the beginning of their employment and as changes to their schedule occur. Work-Study employees may not be scheduled to work during hours they are scheduled to attend class. Compensation and benefits are in accordance with State Tech policy.
  • General Education and Technical Tutors. Tutor positions are part-time in academic programs or in the Academic Resource Center. The number of hours worked per week may vary depending on available funding. Tutors will sign a work agreement prior to their employment. Students are required to provide their class schedule to their supervisors at the beginning of their employment and as changes to their schedule occur. Tutors may not be scheduled to work during hours they are scheduled to attend class Compensation and benefits are in accordance with State Tech policy.
  • Internship. Internships are a form of learning that incorporates classroom teachings in an employment setting. Internships are credits earned for graduation for many State Tech students. State Tech employs students in an internship capacity on a case-by-case-basis. Internships may be on a paid or unpaid basis. Students must be enrolled in the internship course and approved by the Chair. Hours worked are dictated by the program requirements. Compensation and benefits for paid internships are in accordance with State Tech policy.

Job postings and hiring will be processed through standard human resource processes and use the current human resource information system. Paid student employees are required to record their hours worked using the State Tech time and attendance program. Payroll actions and activities are in accordance with standing State Tech policies and procedures.
