Video Surveillance

This policy ensures the appropriate use of video surveillance technology at State Tech to enhance safety and security across the campus while protecting individual privacy rights. It applies to all video surveillance equipment and footage at State Tech including the Osage View.

As part of its security measures and to help ensure a safe workplace, State Tech has positioned video cameras to monitor various areas of its facilities. These cameras are placed to deter crime, protect property, and ensure the safety of students, employees, guests and visitors. Video cameras are not used in private areas where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as restrooms, break rooms, or closed locker rooms.

Surveillance cameras are positioned at several locations throughout the campus and Osage View, both inside and outside academic, administrative, and other buildings, as well as in parking areas. These cameras operate continuously and are recorded. Access to recorded footage is controlled and limited to authorized personnel.

In the event of an incident, such as a crime, accident, or security breach, State Tech may review recorded footage to investigate the event. Individuals who are directly involved in or affected by an incident may request a review of the relevant footage. To initiate a request, the following process applies:

  • Request Submission: Any individual (e.g., a student, employee, or visitor) who is a victim of a crime or accident may submit a formal request to have surveillance footage reviewed. Requests are submitted on the State Tech Ready to Report website by completing the Video Surveillance Footage Request form. Requests must be submitted within 15 days of the incident.
  • Review of Request: Upon receiving a request, State Tech will review and determine if the footage is available and relevant to the incident. State Tech may consult legal counsel to ensure the release complies with privacy laws and internal policies.
  • Release of Footage or Information: Individual with an approved request may view video footage on site. No other release will be provided.
  • Denial of Request: Requests may be denied if the footage does not exist, if its release would violate privacy rights, or if it would interfere with an ongoing investigation or legal proceedings. The requester will be informed of the reason for the denial.

State Tech recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy of individuals captured on surveillance footage. Footage will not be shared with unauthorized individuals or entities, and strict confidentiality will be maintained throughout the review and release process.

State Tech’s video surveillance system is operated in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including privacy laws and data protection guidelines.
