Grant project will serve 325 participants for jobs in manufacturing and industrial maintenance

State Technical College of Missouri has announced it has received a $2.7 million federal grant from the United States Department of Labor as part of the national TechHire Initiative.  The grant will fund the MOStart project and provide 325 participants in the Central Region and entire State of Missouri with services such as job training, job search assistance, math skills and supportive services.

“We are extremely appreciative of the confidence the U.S. Department of Labor has shown in State Technical College of Missouri to provide opportunities for people needing employment in well-paying jobs,” said State Tech President Dr. Donald Claycomb. “This grant will make a huge difference in the lives of people in our community and the State of Missouri, and the partnerships we have with the Central Region Workforce Investment Board, Missouri Department of Corrections, and local employers are key to our success.”

A key feature of the MOStart program is serving ex-offenders as they leave correctional facilities across the State and re-enter society. The project will also serve unemployed, dislocated and incumbent workers needing skills for employment in manufacturing occupations.

“We are excited to partner with State Technical College of Missouri to provide services that enhance and build the workforce of Missouri,” stated Alexandra Blackwell, Executive Director of the Central Region Workforce Investment Board. “MOStart will allow us to partner with Missouri employers to provide paid internships and on-the-job training opportunities to expose people to the real-world work experiences in manufacturing.”

The MOStart project begins July 1, 2016.
